A Farmer returning Home

This beautiful 20th-century watercolour by the Dutch artist Herman Bogman Jr. depicts a picturesque view of a small rural town with a farmer returning home. Its beauty arises from its immediacy, and it was probably painted straight from nature. A moment of peace at the end of a long day.

Biography  Herman Bogman (jr.) (1890-1975)

Herman A.C. Bogman Jr. (The Hague 1890 – The Hague 1975) was a Dutch painter, watercolourist and draftsman. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague and at the Rijksakademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. His father, Hermanus Bogman, taught him how to draw and paint and Willem de Zwart also influenced Herman profoundly, particularly in the area how to use of color. Until the age of fifty, Bogman mainly worked in oils, after which he started to paint in watercolours. He quickly developed into one of the most prominent watercolourists of his time. Bogman was co-founder of the artists' association Haagse Aquarellisten.
