Biography Jan Harm Weijns

Weijns(1864-1945) is considered a typically Rotterdam Impressionist. Weijns was taught by Jan Derk Huibers at the city drawing school in Zwolle and at the State Normal School for Drawing Teachers in Amsterdam (1881-1885), under Willem Molkenboer. He, himself, became first an art teacher in Enschede and Rotterdam. Weijns painted and drew landscapes (in Switzerland and Italy), portraits, interiors and still lifes. He was a member of Arti et Amicitiae, Sint Lucas, the Pulchri Studio and the Rotterdam Artists' Society. He exhibited several times and his work won silver medals in Amsterdam (1912) and San Francisco (1916). From 1915, Weijns exhibited with De Rotterdamsche Tien with artists Gerard Altmann, J.G. Heijberg, Huib Luns, Adriaan de la Rivière, Martin Schildt and August Willem van Voorden. He died in 1945, at the age of 81.
