Hartmut Eing (1938– 2021)
Born in Osterwick in 1938, Hartmut Eing spent much of his life in northern Germany, near the mouth of the River Elbe. After training as a surveyor, he pursued a career in education while developing a highly personal artistic practice.
Together with his wife Ria Eing, a well-known naïve painter, he shared a deep appreciation for nature and environmental themes. His paintings are populated by sailors, fishermen, marine creatures, and figures inhabiting poetic, imaginative landscapes. Blending reality with folklore, his compositions explore the enduring relationship between humanity and the natural world.
Through a distinctive visual language rich in narrative and symbolism, Hartmut Eing created scenes in which myths, maritime traditions, and fantasy converge, offering a romantic and universal vision of life.
