Biography of Alcide Mathieux

Born in 1906 in picturesque Couvin, Belgium, Alcide Mathieux was a master of creating images that stirred the soul. His work, mainly made of wood and terracotta, is imbued with spirituality and a profound fascination with religion, mythology and the female nude.

Mathieux's legacy remains alive, and his masterful sculptures still decorate prominent public spaces, such as the town hall in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre. A striking aspect of Mathieux's art was his expression of the female nude. His images of women were imbued with a certain tenderness and sensual grace. They showed a deep admiration for the female form and the power of the female spirit.

At the age of 86, in the year 1992, Alcide Mathieux left this world, but his art continues to live on and inspire generations of art lovers and sculptors.
