Biography Dick Oostra

Dick Oostra (Enschede, 1946) is a Dutch artist known for his realistic landscapes and paintings of animals. From 1973 to 1990, he worked mainly in drawings, etchings and watercolours. Around 1990, he began to focus increasingly on painting in acrylic and oil.

Since 2018, Oostra has lived and worked in Oldehove in the province of Groningen. The wide skies and open landscapes of the north are an important source of inspiration in his work. He is particularly drawn to the Wadden Sea region, while also finding inspiration in the landscapes of France, Denmark, Sweden and Ireland.

His work is characterised by a quiet, realistic approach to the landscape, with particular attention to light, atmosphere and the changing seasons. Many of his drawings begin as studies for paintings, but are developed sufficiently to stand as independent works of art.

Op de Dijk is a characteristic example of Oostra's atmospheric approach to the Dutch landscape, with its elongated composition and tranquil sense of space.
