Ewoud de Groot (Alkmaar, 1969)
Ewoud de Groot is a Dutch contemporary painter who lives and works in Egmond aan Zee, on the northern coast of the Netherlands.
He studied illustration and painting at the Minerva Academy of Art in Groningen. After graduating, he worked as an illustrator for nature books and magazines before dedicating himself entirely to painting in 1999.
Growing up surrounded by the landscapes of the North Sea coast and the Wadden Sea, nature has always been an important source of inspiration for his work. His artistic practice explores the relationship between the natural world, light, colour and atmosphere.
De Groot is known for his distinctive approach, combining figurative elements with expressive, often abstract backgrounds. Rather than simply reproducing nature, he seeks to capture its essence through composition, texture and the subtle interplay of colours. His paintings balance realism and abstraction, creating works with a strong sense of space and atmosphere.
His work has been exhibited extensively in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States, and is represented in both private and corporate collections internationally. He has also participated in the prestigious Birds in Art exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wisconsin.
Ewoud de Groot continues to explore the beauty and diversity of the natural world through his distinctive contemporary style.
